U.K. TV - r. 12th February 1965 - b&w
Donovan appeared on a consecutive three week run of RSG!, a popular British TV pop programme at the time. He performed the songs live before the programme began its policy of making everyone sing live.
There was a compilation episode called Ready Steady Go: 60s Special on Channel 4 a few years ago that included some of this material (albeit visuals only).
Dave Clark (of Dave Clark Five `fame') owns the rights to this material. We haven't got much chance of it being given a proper release.
U.K. TV - r. 19th February 1965 - b&w
U.K. TV - 1965 - b&w
A documentary about Donovan, quite ground-breaking for its time.
There was a compilation episode called Ready Steady Go: 60s Special on Channel 4 a few years ago that included some of this material (albeit visuals only).
U.S. film (96 mins) - r. April/May 1965 - b&w
D.A. Pennebaker's famous documentary about Bob Dylan, released first in 1967, then unavailable until 1982.
This has got Donovan references all through it, and Don sings To Sing for You to Dylan. In the middle of the song, Dylan says something like "That's a good song, man" although he doesn't even really seem too interested, then grabs the guitar afterwards and sings It's All Over Now, Baby Blue back to Don. There's a drunken argument between Dylan and some hotel guys about a bottle thrown out one of the windows and Don offers to help clean it up.
It is currently unavailable in the U.K. on video. Annoying! Annoying! But you can see the clip on Donovan Volume 2: Old, Live & Rare.

Shindig was ABC's popular music show. Here, Donovan sings Catch the Wind and Colours in what looks like two separate appearances.
You can see it on the video Shindig: Sixties Superstars (U.S. only?) alongside performances by The Turtles, The Mamas and the Papas, The Yardbirds, The Byrds and The Gentrys.
promo film - 1966 - b&w
It starts with Donovan petting a kitten (he actually puts it in his mouth), then it shows him playing with kites, and making glasses with his hands. There's also a part with him in different poses in a doorway, with a cigarette. The overall effect is of a buch of clips put to music.
It's available on the recent History of Rock and Roll ten tape video set (U.S. only?) where John Sebastian introduces it as one of the first music videos ever.
U.S. film - 1967 - colour?
The clip can be seen on Donovan Volume 3.
Italian TV - r. February 1968 - colour?
Donovan participated in a jam session including The Beatles, Mike Love and some others. It was filmed and then shown on Italian television at a later date. The broadcast lasted approximately ten minutes.
For a partial list of the songs sung, see the bootleg Arrive Without Aging.
U.S. radio? - r. February 1968?
Some more material from Rishikesh. Wolfman Jack is the commentator, leading me to believe this was part of a U.S. radio broadcast.
U.K. TV - 1968 - colour
Donovan sings The Lullaby of Spring behind some twigs. You can't see much of him and I was disappointed with the visual aspect of the clip.
It was included as part of a fairly recent BBC TV series called Sounds of the Sixties and is available on Donovan Volume 2: Old, Live & Rare from Donovan's Friends.

In the late 60's, Donovan made two appearances on one of the most popular and politically controversial TV shows of its day: The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. Even today Donovan's performances come off as innocent and charming.
The CBS incarnation of the show ran from Spring 1967 through June of 1969. After the brothers were fired by CBS, their show was picked up first by ABC, then by NBC, but these shows did not catch on. The original CBS shows stand as the classics.
Guests:
Donovan:
Laleña, Happiness Runs and Two Lovers can be found on the bootleg The Reedy River.
There are no video catalogue numbers for the Smothers shows, because they have never been commercially released on tape. A strange cable channel, E!, showed them, unfortunately not intact, a few years ago.
You can get this show on the Donovan's Friends video, Donovan - Volume One.
U.S. TV - t.? 23rd March 1969 - colour?
Guests:
Donovan:
This particular show was performed in the round (as was the other one with Donovan), and here the guests all stood on the centrally located stage, and soloed their own snippets. Donovan sang bits of Jennifer Juniper, Sunshine Superman, Mellow Yellow, and There is a Mountain.
All these songs (but only a part of Atlantis and a bit of the complete Medley) can be found on the bootleg The Reedy River.
Again, there is no video catalogue number for this show but it can be found on Donovan - Volume One from Donovan's Friends.
U.S.? film - 1969 - colour - United Artists
A movie, starring Ian McShane and Suzanne Pleshette.
Donovan is seen performing Lord of the Reedy River in what appears to be a youth hostel. Donovan wrote the title song, but on the film soundtrack album the song is performed by J.P. Rags.
This clip can be seen on Donovan Volume 2: Old, Live & Rare.
U.S.? movie - 1970 - colour
A cool film, directed by Franco Zeffirelli and based on the life of St. Francis of Assisi.
Though Donovan doesn't appear in the film, several original songs or pieces of songs sung by Donovan do. These include the title track Brother Sun, Sister Moon, Shape in the Sky (?), Lovely Day (?), Run Away (?) and Little Church (?).
There was a soundtrack released in Europe, but it contained just the orchestral score and no Donovan material.
U.S.? movie - 1971 - colour?
A curious flick, directed by Jaques Demy and produced by David Putnam, with Donovan playing the title role.
Due to a dispute with the final choice of Donovan's original songs for the released version, Donovan would not allow a soundtrack to be put out. Sailing Homeward was one of the songs from the film.
The songs that Donovan sings can be seen on Donovan Volume 3.

U.K. TV (Channel 4) - 1991? - b&w
This was a compilation episode that included Catch the Wind, Sunshine Superman and Mellow Yellow. It was just an assortment of Donovan film clips from the RSG! shows and the A Boy Called Donovan documentary with the songs dubbed over, but still worth seeing though.
I think this material is probably what appears on the Donovan Volume 3 video, under the show titles A Boy Called Donovan and Ready, Steady, Go!

Icelandic TV - r. November 1994 - t. Wednesday 24th May 1995 - colour
Donovan played a gig in Reykjavík, Iceland in November 1994, at the request of an Icelandic filmmaker who wanted to do a documentary about Bellman, a Swedish composer. It was taped by Icelandic national television and part of the concert was shown as part of the documentary.
The Icelandic State Television Company then broadcasted Give a Little Love - an hour long interview mixed with selected live performances from the concert.
The show was made and the interview was conducted by one of Iceland's most distinguished film directors, Hrafn Gunnlaugsson (who brought Bob Dylan to Iceland a few years ago). Donovan talked about the early years, his favourite poets, his relationship with his wife Linda, etc.
The interviews were filmed at Hrafn's house (Hrafn means Raven) and the live performance is from the national theatre. Some of the songs were: Catch the Wind, Donna Donna and Hurdy Gurdy Man.
