Welcome to the first issue of a brand new magazine.
It's so hard nowadays not to be slack. I suppose I don't have to tell you that. But after a while, you get a bit bored of not doing much and feel like you should be doing something worthwhile, or at least trying to.
Normally, you decide to do something and it doesn't happen. Then you make sure it absolutely will this time, and it fails to appear again. After a hundred times of actually actually actually making sure you do something, you'll still be disappointed. There's a strange force holding you back, preventing you from reaching your potential. Sound familiar?
Well this time, we made a concerted group effort not to let the waster fairies get away with it and ... ta-ra! At the moment it's not very big, hard, or clever but giant oaks from tiny acorns and all that.
So why another music magazine? Take a gander at this from the minutes of our first meeting.
What is our mission statement? To champion the underdog? To produce a quality magazine every month that we would be interested in reading? It is going to be mainly about music but there's no reason why we can't have articles about other forms of popular culture. Or anything else for that matter. But maybe we should try and remain fairly focussed. I think our philosophy should be to be unpretentious, to be unsnobbish about music (that's hard), to be unafraid of discovering bands late, to build support for new groups up and not knock them down later (like NME), to be unafraid of perceived as being weedy because we like Carole King or whoever and to be passionate and committed to the things we love.And that pretty much sums it up.
