The Bluetones
Science And Nature

Science and Nature is the third installment in the Bluetones' catalogue of works and is arguably their most well-rounded contribution yet. More akin to their debut rather than Return To The Last Chance Saloon, it has a more mellow feel with a laid back tempo and melodies that drift happily along.

Tiger Lily is the standout track in terms of instant appeal, closely battling for the honour, however, with first single Keep The Home Fires Burning, Science and Nature's Slight Return if you will. Pushing into new territory is Slack Jaw, the album's greatest accomplishment. Slide guitars weave over a pounding bass drum beat, which drives this melodic number along. Perhaps not an instant number one hit single, yet proof enough that the Bluetones are pushing forward their sound whilst still maintaining a familiarity and an instantly recognisable sound.

There are many great tracks on here, and if you're already a fan you will love this album. Those of you who weren't totally overawed by the first two Bluetones long players could do worse than to give them a third chance. You may be pleasantly surprised.
